The meaning of the above principals is to not provide a comprehensive outline of Aboriginal histories or teachings, but to help find a starting place or foothold for educators to come together to address the Euro-centric methods of education that have followed us since (and prior to) Canada’s confederation. The meaning of the Principals of Learning are to provide new and already-acting teachers with a chance at reflection. It will help them understand how Aboriginal teachings might be incorporated into their classrooms, as well as provide context for how they might best go about doing this. It is a resource and a tool for deconstructing the past so we might do better in our future.
